A cybersecurity company is warning that 20 Wi-Fi router models from Chinese vendor Zbtlink contain a backdoor, a hidden way to remotely control the device. VulnCheck discovered the alleged backdoor in the firmware of a Zbtlink AX3000 it purchased from the Chinese e-commerce platform Alibaba. That means affected Zbtlink routers can receive hidden commands from whoever controls the mysterious IP and domain the backdoor communicates to. The company also told Reuters that it estimates at least 100,000 affected routers are deployed worldwide. Even so, the alleged backdoor discovery doesn’t bode well for the reputation of Chinese-made Wi-Fi routers.
