Indiana State police say there is no sign of foul play in the death of an inmate who was being held at the Jackson County Jail.
Troopers have opened an investigation into the death of the death of 47-year-old Richard E. Cox of Crothersville after what the sheriff’s department called an apparent suicide attempt.
According to troopers, the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department requested the investigation into the death after Cox was found unconscious in his cell on July 25th.
Troopers say that jail staff provided first aid at the jail, along with medics and fire department personnel when they arrived.
Troopers say that Cox was alone in his housing area when he became unresponsive and there is no indication of foul play on the part of any other inmates or jail staff.
