Fifty-six workers from Great Yarmouth Services (GYS), the council-owned environmental company in Great Yarmouth, began industrial action today in a dispute over pay, representing 32pc of the workforce. Carl Smith, leader of Great Yarmouth Borough Council, said: "It is extremely disappointing that unions have chosen to target the busy summer holidays with the intention of disrupting services the public rely on. GYS workers in Great Yarmouth are walking out over a dispute about pay. Waste collections for businesses along the seafront will be suspended, with certain litter bins and non-essential street cleaning not taking place. Brown bin collections will resume on August 18, and missed rounds will be added so customers do not lose out.
