Portillo's has announced major cuts at the company's Illinois headquarters. The chain cut 18% of its Oak Brook corporate and "field management" staff on July 31 in what it described as a "strategic reset." The layoffs impacted the 140 employees at the company's corporate offices but did not affect any of the roughly 8,000 workers at its restaurants across the country. Two locations are in the works in Chicago, with a first-of-its-kind walk-up window set to open near Wrigley Field and another expected to open soon on Michigan Avenue in downtown Chicago.
