Christopher Nolan Actually Buried People Under Sand for The Odyssey’s Hades Scene
[]
SYFY WIRE
Christopher Nolan's unwavering commitment to practical effects drove him to bury people alive for The Odyssey.
And that's exactly what he did while filming The Odyssey's eerie trip to Hades—filmed at the hauntingly beautiful Hjörleifshöfði in Iceland.
"I knew early I wanted the landscape of Iceland to portray Hades,” Nolan explained in the official production notes.
Like he did with the Circe and sea monster sequences, Nolan took a literal breathtakingly practical approach to the Underworld.
The actor also compared the experience of reading The Odyssey screenplay to reading the one for Inception 16 years ago.
