In the upper Midwest, crop conditions are much more variable than a year ago, when much of the region experienced good-to-excellent corn and soybean yields. Some areas of the Midwest have had excessive rainfall this spring and early summer, while other areas are dealing with various levels of drought conditions. Twelve percent of the U.S. corn crop was rated “poor-to-very poor” on July 27, compared to only 7% a year ago. There is a wide variation in the “good-to-excellent” crop ratings across the major corn and soybean producing States. The latest report showed 9% of the U.S. soybean crop with a rating of “poor-to-very poor,” which compares to only 6% in 2025.
