The Trimontium Roman and Iron Age Festival took place on Saturday (August 1) at the historic site at Newstead. Kay Callander, trustee of the Trimontium Museum, said: “We are absolutely delighted by the response to our first Roman and Iron Age Festival. Children took part in mock battles alongside Roman soldiers and Iron Age natives, while families and adults could try traditional pottery making and bushcraft. The festival marked the launch of Trimontium Trust’s fundraising campaign to build an authentic Iron Age roundhouse. Credit also went to contributors, volunteers, funders and partners who worked to deliver the event.
