John P. Wherthey, 86, of Neshannock Township passed away the afternoon of Sept. 4, 2025, at UPMC Jameson Hospital. Born Dec. 29, 1938, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, John was the son of the late Lawr-ence and Mary Fader Wher-they. John is survived by his beloved wife, the former Frances Druzisky. The two were married in April 1964. John had retired as a sergeant with the Pennsylvania State Police after 35 years of service. He then worked in the Lawrence County Adult Probation Office for 10 years. John had proudly served his country as a member of the United States Marine Corps from 1958 to 1962. He was a member of Holy Spirit Parish, St. Camillus Church. John was an avid car enthusiast and enjoyed restoring classic and antique cars. He enjoyed working in and taking care of his yard. A loving husband, father and grandfather, John's greatest joy was spending time with his family. In addition to his wife, John is survived by three sons, John P. (J.P.) Wherthey (Ann Marie), Christopher Wherthey (Shelly) and Kevin Wherthey; his brother, Lawrence Wherthey (Ruth); his sister, Kathy Matthews; and five grandchildren. In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his brother, Timothy Wherthey. Visitation will be 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Ed & Don DeCarbo Funeral Home & Crematory, 3000 Wilmington Road. The New Castle Area Honor Guard will perform full military rites at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, followed immediately by a blessing service. Entombment will be in Parkside Cemetery.
