The operator of Newbank Garden Centre, Bury Road, Radcliffe, has submitted plans to the planning authority, seeking permission for the construction of an enclosure over a courtyard and a revamp of the current cafe. These plans would connect the café to the main building and would mean customers would not need to walk in the rain to reach the café. In total, there will be 415 covers at the new café facility, with access to an outdoor patio area and the retail facilities in the centre. In a letter to the council, Jon Bottomley, commercial director at the garden centre, explained the business has been trading for 25 years in Radcliffe. It states that the garden centre’s current café "is terribly degraded" and "too small" and the development would bring between 10 and 15 new jobs to the area.
