Fife Council has granted permission for replacement columns and lanterns on Park Lane in Aberdour. A report by planners explained that the street is currently illuminated by five modern lighting columns “of late-20th century appearance”. It continued: “While functional in nature, the existing lighting infrastructure does not reflect the architectural style or historic character of the surrounding built environment.” Seven new traditional style lights which incorporate swan neck brackets and lanterns will now be provided under the move intended to “better complement” the character of the surrounding conservation area. “The amended layout addresses the concerns identified through consultation, and the traditional style lighting columns and lanterns would be appropriately integrated within the streetscape.
