Martin Cowley's victim told Worcester Crown Court that she had not had "the vocabulary" to explain what he had done to her when she was a young teenager in the 1990s. In 2023, she finally found the courage to report Cowley's two-year campaign of sexual abuse, saying she "sobbed and sobbed and sobbed" as she did so. "Nothing can take away the trauma caused by Martin," she said. "We are pleased to get this custodial sentence against Cowley whose victim was only a child at the time," she said. "He may have thought he had got away with his disgusting crimes but today shows he has not escaped justice.
