The incident happened at Hadleigh Castle yesterday with fire crews being called to the site at around 2.38pm where a large area of grassland was alight. Crews from Rayleigh Weir and Brentwood attended the scene and managed to extinguish the fire, which was deemed deliberate, before leaving at 4.15pm. Speaking on behalf of Salvation Army, Ciaran Egan, Hadleigh estate director, said: "We would like to thank the local fire crews for their incredible response in tackling the fire and keeping people safe. "We know lots of people enjoy spending time here, so please help us to look after the site. Pictures showed smoke surrounding from the historic site, which was declared a 'high fire risk.'
