A camera was put up outside Cecil Jones Academy on Eastern Avenue in Southend back in April and was initially scythed down by vandals soon after. A council spokesperson said: “At this time, Southend-on-Sea City Council is not aware of any current plans to reinstall the speed enforcement camera on Eastern Avenue." The camera was part of a road safety trial led by the Safer Essex Road Partnership and Essex Police. Speed - The camera was on Eastern Avenue. The technology is capable of detecting other offences - such as red‑light violations, mobile phone use and seatbelt non‑compliance - but these functions were not part of the Southend trial.
