New data has revealed that West Yorkshire Police issued 1,055 fixed penalty notices (FPNs) between 2023 and 2025 for child car seat and seatbelt offences, the second-highest total in the UK.
The figures, obtained by Confused.com, highlight ongoing confusion and lack of awareness around car seat safety and legal requirements.
Confused.com has launched a car seat safety checker to help parents identify the correct seat type for their child based on age and weight.
He said: "Our car seat safety checker takes the guesswork out of the equation.
"By simply entering your child's age and weight, parents can get clear, instant guidance on the right seat for their child."
