Bradford Wool Exchange to celebrate history with birthday bash
['Harry Williams']
Bradford Telegraph and Argus | News
Bradford’s Wool Exchange will be in the spotlight on Sunday, August 9, through a day of events hosted by Waterstones.
The Wool Exchange Birthday Bash was first suggested five years ago by Bradford poet and "stand-up historian" Glyn Watkins, who wanted to mark the anniversary of the building’s foundation stone, laid in 1864.
He thinks it was the first visit to Bradford by a serving Prime Minister, and almost everyone in the town had a holiday, despite it being a Tuesday.
The Wool Exchange became a global centre for the wool trade, setting prices for raw wool for a century.
His guided tours will run at 11am, 1pm, and 3pm, costing £5 for adults, with accompanied children admitted free.
