Around 150 swimmers took the plunge at Bowmoor Lake for the Lechlade Lions’ eighth charity open water swim, raising vital funds for Alzheimer’s Research UK. The event brought swimmers, volunteers and supporters together for a day of challenges in and around the lake, with special guests on hand to encourage those taking part. South Cotswolds MP Roz Savage also joined the event, taking to the lake aboard the safety boat to cheer participants on. She later presented trophies to the winners, while David Ensor from Alzheimer’s Research UK handed out medals and personally thanked swimmers for supporting the charity’s work. The final fundraising total had not been announced as the Standard went to press, but the money raised will support Alzheimer’s Research UK and its work towards better treatments, diagnosis and prevention of dementia.
