Walter Martin, a resident at Ponbay Lodge care home in Hastings and believed to be the last surviving glider pilot from the Second World War, welcomed a visit from Jay Hawkins, a Cambridgeshire resident travelling the UK to document the first-hand accounts of Second World War veterans. Mr Martin said: "I was very honoured Jay has taken the time to speak to Second World War veterans like me and appreciated him making contact with me." Ponbay Lodge regularly hosts a community ‘Tea on Tuesday’ event, welcoming visitors each week from 10.30am to join residents for refreshments and freshly baked treats.
