The Trump administration on Thursday proposed significant changes to Head Start, the country’s early education program for children from low-income families.
But early childhood experts say without federal standards, families lose assurance that Head Start means the same thing everywhere.
“And taxpayers lose a clear measure of impact that Head Start funding should have,” Celena Roldan Sarillo, president of Start Early, said in a media briefing Thursday.
EmailHead Start and Early Head Start are federal programs for children younger than age of 5 from low-income families.
The Wisconsin Head Start program serves about 12,000 families per year.
