Data obtained by the Scottish Liberal Democrats through a parliamentary question reveals there have been 57 crimes involving possession of an article with a blade or point in Glasgow schools over the period. A further 19 crimes involved such weapons being used in other criminal activity on school premises. The party have previously highlighted that, across Scotland, almost 700 crimes of possessing an article with a blade or point have been recorded in schools over the last five years. Asked about the figures, a Glasgow City Council spokesperson said: “Our schools will not tolerate weapons of any kind being brought to school by pupils. Glasgow invests in early intervention and nurturing principles across our nurseries, primary and secondary schools for pupils to have positive role models and promote respect, tolerance and kindness.”
