After months of uncertainty, both governments have resolved that the Bougainville referendum results will finally be tabled for parliamentary deliberation in three week's time. Marape and Toroama will jointly determine the date on which Parliament will vote on whether to ratify the result. Last month, the Autonomous Bougainville Government (ABG) announced that Bougainville plans to declare independence in 2030. Earlier, PNG's ruling PANGU Party said it would support a 15-year transition process for Bougainville, regardless of whether parliament votes for or against independence.
