The DHSC has today promised 100 new community mental health centres, offering walk-in support without a referral, and 59 dedicated mental health emergency departments.
The government claimed the new rollout, which will be backed by £343m, was the “biggest redesign of mental health services in a generation”.
It also said £156m has been allocated to trusts for the initial 59 new mental health emergency departments, with £187m allocated for the initial 100 new community mental health centres.
It also forms part of its forthcoming mental health strategy, which will look beyond the NHS to the role of schools, employers, local government and the voluntary sector in supporting mental health.
“The mental health A&Es will make support quicker for individuals facing a mental health crisis in a more therapeutic environment,” she said.
