The National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) has warned residents living along the White Volta and other flood-prone areas in the North East Region to prepare for possible flooding following the planned spillage of Burkina Faso’s Bagré Dam. According to NADMO, authorities responsible for the dam have officially notified Ghana that the spillage will begin on Tuesday, August 11, 2026. In a statement, NADMO advised residents, farmers, fishermen, herdsmen and other persons who live or work around vulnerable areas to take precautionary measures to protect lives and property. The North East Regional NADMO office said district offices have been directed to intensify public education and sensitisation campaigns, particularly in communities located along the White Volta and other vulnerable waterways. NADMO added that it will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as the dam spillage progresses.
