During the meeting, the Cabinet approved by majority vote the Draft Law on the Rules of Origin of Goods, submitted by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry. The Ministry of Internal Security presented a comprehensive report on the Somali passport system, supported by statistical data and detailed visual information. The Ministry stated that all amendments to the personal details contained in issued passports had been suspended in order to safeguard the credibility, security and international reputation of the Somali passport. Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre encouraged Cabinet ministers and other senior government officials to travel using Somali passports, stressing the importance of preserving the dignity and honour associated with public office. He also commended Second Deputy Prime Minister Jibril Abdirashid Haji Abdi for returning his foreign passport and choosing to use the Somali passport.
