The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the reported theft of an ATV from a Bowman Loop residence, though officials have not entered the vehicle into the national database due to missing documentation.
According to an incident report filed by Deputy Aidyn Smith, a 31-year-old Monterey man reported his green 1997 Yamaha Big Bear four-wheeler missing on August 5.
He told authorities the vehicle was last seen at Bowman Loop between 7:00 PM and 9:40 PM that evening.
When questioned by deputies, the owner initially stated he possessed a notarized bill of sale containing the vehicle’s Vehicle Identification Number (VIN).
Due to the conflicting statements, absence of a VIN, and lack of valid proof of ownership, the $500 four-wheeler has not been entered into the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) as stolen.
