In a significant step towards modernising the cooperative housing sector, the Maharashtra Government will introduce a uniform set of Model Bye-Laws for over 1.25 lakh cooperative housing societies across the state from October. A committee headed by Deputy Registrar Rajesh Lavhekar has been tasked with drafting the revised bye-laws, with the exercise now in its final stages. The new framework has been aligned with the Maharashtra Co-operative Societies Act and recently notified government regulations. The updated bye-laws will bring uniform rules on maintenance charges, tenant documentation, non-occupancy charges, parking management, statutory annual audits, and financial governance. The revision comes after more than a decade, replacing the 2014 Model Bye-Laws, which were framed before the rapid expansion of high-rise residential towers and large housing complexes.
