If you are in your 70s or 80s, or love or care for someone who is, you probably pay closer attention to news about Alzheimer’s disease than you once did. The test can’t tell anyone with certainty whether they will develop Alzheimer’s disease. Alzheimer’s research, however, is beginning to move in a more hopeful direction. The Atlanta Jewish Times also reported on Jewish donors supporting Alzheimer’s research and patient care through the Atlanta Jewish Foundation, including work connected with Dr. Allan Levey and Emory University’s Goizueta Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center. The project grew from two family tragedies: Oxman’s mother died from Alzheimer’s disease, and Ackman’s 26-year-old daughter recently survived a devastating brain hemorrhage.
