BARRIE360/Julius HernKempenfest has wrapped up for another year, with organizers reporting strong attendance and positive feedback despite severe weather cutting the festival short and concerns about parking fees. Markle said organizers have received significant feedback from visitors who were surprised by parking enforcement and fees in areas where many had traditionally parked for free during Kempenfest weekends. The city and festival organizers promoted a free shuttle service that connected parking areas at Park Place, Allandale, the waterfront and downtown. "Residents can park free on Lakeshore Drive and other waterfront areas with a digital waterfront parking permit," according to Brent Forsyth, the City of Barrie's Director of Transit and Parking Strategy. He added that the City of Barrie works closely with Kempenfest organizers before and after the event to coordinate and review all operational aspects involving City services, including parking enforcement and transit operations.
