BANGLADESH — The ancestral home of former Bangladesh cricket captain Shakib Al Hasan was attacked by a mob after he participated in the first public media event of ousted former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina since her removal from power in 2024.
According to police, a group of attackers vandalised Shakib’s residence in Magura, around 170 kilometres southwest of Dhaka, on Wednesday.
During the event, former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina addressed the media for the first time since leaving office and declared that she intended to return to Bangladesh despite facing legal proceedings.
The event coincided with the second anniversary of her removal from power and reignited political tensions inside Bangladesh.
The former prime minister, now 78, has been living in India since her departure from Bangladesh.
