A Pittsburgh man accused of interfering with an investigation into an antisemitic attack in Oakland pleaded guilty to obstruction on Thursday in federal court.
Although Alkhaleel was present during the assault, his plea related to his attempts to help cover it up later.
According to Assistant U.S. Attorney Morgan Camerlo, a Jewish Pitt student walked past a group of men around 2 a.m. when one of them saw his Star of David necklace and called out an antisemitic slur.
A few minutes later, one of the men, Muhammed Koc, 27, of Pittsburgh punched the victim in the face, Camerlo said.
The Pitt student, who has not been identified publicly, got a split lip and had headaches.
