NET Web DeskThe Manipur State Film and Television Institute (MSFTI), in collaboration with the International Federation of Film Critics–India (FIPRESCI-India), on Thursday launched the third edition of its Film Appreciation Course, bringing together leading film scholars, critics and industry professionals to nurture a deeper understanding of cinema among aspiring filmmakers and enthusiasts. The course features an accomplished faculty drawn from across the country and abroad. Mentors include four-time National Award-winning film critic Ashok Rane, noted film critic Rwita Dutta, Associate Professors and film critics Dr. Minakshi Dutta and Dr. Pranjan Borah, National Film Award-winning filmmaker Meghachandra Kongbam, and Canada-based Hollywood visual effects artist Ranen Nongmaithem, whose credits include Avatar, Aquaman, Dead Man Down and Shark Night 3D. Organisers said the programme will also feature sessions by local filmmakers and resource persons, with lectures, discussions, interactive sessions and film screenings designed to provide participants with a comprehensive understanding of cinema, from film language and criticism to contemporary filmmaking practices. Thirty-five film enthusiasts and scholars from different districts of Manipur are taking part in the course, which aims to strengthen film literacy and foster critical engagement with cinema in the state.
