In a statement, Highways North East said: "The A1M remains closed southbound between J63 Chester-le-Street & J61 Coxhoe due to mechanical issues impacting the resurfacing works, resulting in them overrunning. All lanes are now open on the #A1M southbound in between J63 #Chester-le-Street & J61 #Coxhoe. Currently there are no significant delays on the approach. The road has now fully reopened, with Highways North East updating drivers on social media, saying: "All lanes are now open on the A1M southbound between J63 Chester-le-Street & J61 Coxhoe. "Currently, there are no significant delays on the approach."
