Hoffman decided to direct a movie called Straight Time, based on Edward Bunker’s novel No Beast So Fierce, casting himself in the lead, too.
After just one day of shooting, Hoffman essentially fired himself, with Ulu Grosbard coming to direct the rest of the movie instead.
Over three decades passed before Hoffman was ready to direct again, yet isn’t 30-odd years better than none at all?
