19 residents were displaced and 18 people were rescued after a two-alarm apartment fire tore through San Francisco's Western Addition early Thursday morning, fire officials said. The fire was reported at about 1:56 a.m. in the 800 block of Fillmore Street. The San Francisco Fire Department initially placed the fire's location in the 900 block. Crews rescued 18 people from second- and third-floor windows using ground and aerial ladders, while several other residents were rescued from inside the building, according to the department. The fire spread to two structures — 865 Fillmore St. and 855 Fillmore St. — but firefighters prevented it from extending to surrounding buildings.
