So many of these companies are located in cities with very high rent, developers are struggling to live. Lots of Developers and Studio Artists hangout on ArtStation, they are really approachable, it's how I meet them. The freelancers share a lot, permanent staff not so much, until they lose their job and burn the studios reputation on GlassDoor. To the observer the trailer looks like a neat new direction, but only because the original team are gone and jobless. The competition is fierce, a lot of Developers and game artists have no choice but to stay in a bad situation.
