Senegal · POLITICSKey Facts —The verdict: Dakar’s Tribunal des flagrants délits, the court for cases brought straight to trial, convicted three commentators from the pro-PASTEF outlet Feeñal Digital on Wednesday 5 August 2026. President Bassirou Diomaye Faye dismissed party founder Ousmane Sonko as prime minister on 22 May 2026; Sonko was elected speaker of the National Assembly four days later. Mandoumbé Diop, who broadcasts under the name Lamignou Darou, was sentenced to three months in prison. On 5 August 2026 a Dakar court convicted them of offending the head of state and of statements contrary to public morals. The three men are supporters of the ruling PASTEF party, so the case shows criminal speech law being used inside the governing movement rather than against the opposition.
