The government has announced a £343 million investment to improve mental health services across England, with 159 new NHS facilities set to open over the coming monthsThe plans include 100 new Community-Based Mental Health Centres and 59 Mental Health Emergency Departments. Help in local communitiesThe new community mental health centres will offer walk-in support without the need for a GP referral, helping people access care before their mental health reaches crisis point. Specialist crisis careAlongside the community hubs, 59 dedicated Mental Health Emergency Departments will provide specialist support for people experiencing a mental health crisis. This will more than triple the number of specialist mental health emergency departments in England, increasing the total from 23 to 82. Funding includes £187 million for the community mental health centres and £156 million for the emergency departments.
