President Tinubu Orders EFCC to Unfreeze Osun State Accounts Ahead of Governorship Polls​President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission to immediately approach the court to vacate an order freezing the bank accounts of the Osun State Government. ​The directive follows a court order secured by the anti-graft agency on August 5, 2026, which prompted swift presidential intervention due to the proximity of the upcoming Osun State gubernatorial election. ​While reaffirming his commitment to the operational independence of law enforcement and anti-corruption agencies, President Tinubu stated that the timing of the account freeze was inauspicious. He emphasized that no action should be taken that could create the impression that federal agencies are interfering in the electoral process. ​Under the presidential directive, the commission is expected to discontinue its current legal action regarding the Osun State Government accounts and formally vacate the freeze order.
