In 2026, applications for funding at the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS), for the second semester of the school year, opened on 1st July and closed on 17th July.
Now, on 5th August, these have been closed for quite some time, but NSFAS has announced that it will act to get students enrolled.
“(NSFAS)’ Administrator Professor Hlengani Mathebula has acted decisively to allow for the registration of eligible students for the second semester across UNISA and universities of technology, following concurrence with the Minister of Higher Education and Training,” an announcement reads.
Then, on top of all of this, NSFAS continually spends millions of Rands on expensive advisors.
In light of these problems slow and trouble registrations for funding seem inevitable.
