The timing is critical as the firm behind the technology, Encomara, and its majority shareholder, Aurora Energy Services, targets the adoption of Squid technology by small, trial sized floating wind projects in the UK.
Closer to home, the partners are also looking at Pentland, 92.5 MW floating wind project off the coast of Dounreay, led by Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP).
Future factoryLanding a deal to supply Squid units to a smaller floating offshore wind scheme like Erebus or Pentland would require around seven connectors.
Currently, the 450 acre site with 650 metres of quayside is prepared to support the offshore wind market in particular after a £400m investment.
Mark Gillespie, chief commercial officer at Haventus said: “We welcome Encomara to Ardersier Port as it takes the next step in the development of its Squid technology.
