Jocelyn Benson, Michigan Secretary of State, secured the Democratic gubernatorial primary nomination, defeating Genesee County Sheriff Chris Swanson Tuesday. The race was declared with only 17% of the votes in, and Benson obtained 83.2% of the vote to Swanson’s 16.8%. “I am so thrilled to stand before you as the Democratic Party’s nominee to be the next governor of Michigan,” Benson said. “Tonight the general election begins. Benson will face Republican nominee in the Nov. 3 general election to determine Michigan’s next governor.
