Mike Rogers, who ran unopposed in the Michigan Republican U.S. Senate primary, secured the party’s nomination Aug. 4. In a statement Wednesday morning, Rogers acknowledged his democratic opponent Abdul-El Sayed’s nomination and outlined his priorities heading into the general election. Rogers, former chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, served as the U.S. Representative for Michigan’s 8th Congressional District from 2001 to 2015. Rogers has centered his general election campaign on a single core issue: expanding access to homeownership. Rogers will face El-Sayed in the Nov. 3 general election to succeed retiring Sen.
