Cape Town residents are being asked to use water sparingly for nearly two weeks as essential maintenance on one of the Western Cape’s most important water supply systems temporarily reduces the amount of water available to the city, Cape {town} Etc reports. The RSE Tunnel is a vital part of the Western Cape Water Supply System, transporting water from the Theewaterskloof Dam into the Berg River system before it is treated and distributed across Cape Town. To manage the reduced flow, the City’s Water and Sanitation Directorate will make several operational changes throughout the maintenance period. With limited water available while maintenance is underway, reducing daily consumption will help ensure there is enough supply for everyone across Cape Town. Although the temporary reduction in available water may require residents to be more mindful of their usage, the maintenance forms part of a long-term infrastructure programme aimed at protecting the reliability of the Western Cape’s water supply.
