And among those smaller pits, or quarries, is a 14-acre expanse at 301 Monroe Ave. N.E.
Segale has owned the Upper Balch Pit for decades, and it now has R-10 zoning.
With no architect yet attached, Segale initiated plans with the city this February to upzone the pit slightly.
The proposed new R-14 zoning would allow 179 possible townhouses.
