The Rangers were not without their share of bad luck last season. While last year's bad luck certainly dragged them down, that's not to say that better luck alone will lift them high enough to contend. The Rangers are asking a lot of new pieces to fit seamlessly, and a lot of bad luck to simply disappear. With a little lottery luck, the Rangers finish just outside the postseason while still holding meaningful draft odds. If the Rangers can emerge from this season with a clear direction, then the year will have served its purpose.
