Explore Academy, a charter school in northeast Albuquerque, is celebrating the completion of its gym and adjoining black box theater at its middle and high school campus after overcoming significant setbacks along the way. “And I think there’s a stage to which they are still sort of capturing the fact that we actually have this now.” School leaders had hoped they would have a gym in 2024, but on April 7 the roof collapsed. It turns out the previous contractors had failed a frame inspection on March 6, and the roof came down the following month, forcing Explore Academy leaders to begin again. With the gym now safe, crews were also able to complete work on a black box theater for student productions that shares a wall with the gym.
