Gergely Karácsony wrote that while work is under way on the comprehensive renovation of the Nagykörút, to be completed by 2029, certain interventions cannot wait until then. He explained that on a section of József körút, changes are now being introduced that simultaneously provide more space for pedestrians, safer conditions for cyclists, and a more orderly environment for the operation of local businesses and service providers. He noted that the current transformation is also an important test: the solutions that could form the basis of the full renewal of the Nagykörút will be trialled, feedback will be gathered, results monitored, and changes made if necessary. As he wrote, the development is being carried out with funding from the Reallocata European Union project, in cooperation between the municipal government, Budapest Közút, and the Budapesti Közlekedési Központ.
