Beckley, WV - James Quincy "Jim" Hartsog, of the Beckley area, left this world peacefully on August 1, 2026. He was born at home on May 12, 1933, in Sophia, West Virginia, the tenth of eleven children of Bessie M. (Taylor) Hartsog and Edward R. Hartsog. He earned a degree in elementary education from Concord College in 1955 and began his teaching career at Sophia Elementary School. Jim married the late Irene Hawkins in December 1958. In 1978 he married Betty Toney Hartsog, welcoming her four children—Frank, Seth, Karen, and Greg—into the family.
