D-Wave said its gate preserves a favorable error hierarchy in which the most common errors are also easier to identify and correct. Cutting physical qubit overheadQuantum error correction typically spreads one reliable logical qubit across many physical qubits. The planned machine is intended to perform more than one million operations successfully and combines dual-rail qubits with integrated cryogenic control technology. In practical terms, that would make the system 10 times more reliable for each increment of error-correction capability, potentially enabling fault-tolerant operation with fewer physical qubits.
