WARANGAL: District Collector Dr Satya Sharada highlighted the importance of breastfeeding, stating that breast milk is the first vaccine for a newborn. She was speaking at an awareness programme held at CKM Hospital in Warangal on Thursday as part of World Breastfeeding Week celebrations. Dr Satya Sharada noted that breastfeeding offers multiple health benefits to mothers as well, including reduced post-delivery bleeding, faster recovery of the uterus, and lower risks of obesity, breast cancer, cervical cancer and Type-2 diabetes. The Collector also encouraged mothers with excess breast milk to donate it to milk banks, stating that such donations could save the lives of infants in need. On the occasion, students of the Government Nursing College presented a role play to raise awareness about the importance of breastfeeding and the KMC method.
