The arrival marks the first time that coal mined by SCCL outside Telangana has been transported to the state, with officials describing it as a historic milestone in the company’s expansion. The coal will be used to meet Telangana’s power generation requirements in accordance with the state government’s directions. The transportation of coal from the company’s Odisha mine to Telangana reflected SCCL’s growing operational strength, he said. They described the movement of coal from SCCL’s own mine in another state to Telangana as an unprecedented event in the company’s history. Tirumala Rao said the Singareni Thermal Power Plant continues to play a vital role in meeting the state’s electricity needs and added that construction of a new 800-MW ultra-supercritical thermal power unit is progressing as planned.
